My Car is Over-heating
There are many things we want to be hot. A hot shower, a hot cup of coffee, a hot date, but one thing you don’t want running hot is your engine. With that said, last week, Carmergency, LLC responded to no fewer than five emergency calls where the engine was over-heating and there was steam coming out of the engine. Because Louisiana has some pretty hot weather in the spring and summer months, we would like to take the opportunity to let our friends, family and customers know how to prevent this from happening to them.
The most important thing to remember here is to CHECK YOUR COOLANT!
First thing to do is to pop the hood and look for a little container saying engine coolant. Remove the cap to check the level. Do this when only after the engine has had time to cool off. It should be between the maximum and minimum levels. If it is too low, add some coolant. This is relatively inexpensive and can be found at any auto parts store. DO NOT ADD ONLY WATER. If you are uncertain about how to proceed, please view our video.
Step 1) open the hood
Step 2) open the coolant container. Check to see if there is enough coolant. It should be between the minimum and maximum line.
Step 3) check the coolant to see if it is the appropriate color.
Should you need to add coolant an inexpensive coolant can be located at any auto-parts store.
Please remember to only check the coolant while the engine is not HOT. Also remember that using only water can damage your cooling system. So please do not only add water to your coolant system.
If in the unexpected event you are indeed leaking coolant, call the professionals at CARMERGENCY, LLC, to take a look at your car. It could be something as simple as a leaking hose, or a complicated issue like a water pump gone bad. Remember that your cooling system is an important part of the car. Without proper cooling, your car will overheat and cause engine damage. Sometime irreparable.
